Google Accepting Signups for Affiliate Network

In 2006 we all heard the that Google is going into to Affiliate Network and compete with the likes of CJ, Linkshare and others... Today we got an email from Google AdScene team to sign-up for referrals beta site.

Reason this is important for dealerships and automotive vertical is that it will open up pay per performance advertising at relatively low cost. Pay for performance works bit different then pay-per-click... instead of paying for each click to your website you can set it up to pay only when someone completes a certain action on your website... like submits a lead form.

From an automotive perspective, I think this is more in line with what mainstream dealers are looking for. In our experience, dealers haven't really been interested in PPC campaigns because it still produces a lot of "unknown" prospects - that is prospects who aren't necessarily interested in their inventory. In my opinion, really what's the difference between PPC and a magazine ad from that point of view? Paying for performance just might fill that void in auto dealer sites to get them to take the next step in that advertising direction.

Lot of dealers have been burned by poorly planed PPC program but one should not shelf it. As a well plained PPC with the right keywords, right Geo targeting and most important of all lead acquisition tools on the website will give you better result then TV and Video program. One can still be burned by a poorly planed pay for performance program... like ClickBank... their program is great for publishers but for advertisers it is loosing solution. We have to wait and see what kind of tool and measure Google will put in place to stop the robots and internet sweatshops.
